GunNail (28th May. 1992)
NMK / Tecmo • 1993

GunNail is a two-player vertical scrolling shooter released in May 1993 by NMK, licensed for distribution by Tecmo. Players control ships battling through a series of increasingly challenging stages filled with enemy formations and projectiles. Utilizing an 8-way joystick and two buttons, players maneuver their craft to destroy targets while avoiding damage and collecting power-ups. The game’s vertical screen presents a detailed visual environment powered by a Motorola 68000 processor and enhanced audio from Yamaha and OKI sound chips. Up to two players can cooperate, sharing the experience of dodging enemy fire and working together to overcome obstacles as they ascend through the levels. A hidden message appears on the screen during machine reset if specific buttons are pressed in sequence on player two's side, revealing the game’s release date. A team of developers including Morio, Ore!, Ikezu Kenzi, and others contributed to GunNail’s creation. Its resolution is 224 x 384 pixels, with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, providing a vibrant display across its palette of 1024 colors.
