Gameplay

Gunlock is a fast-paced, vertically scrolling shooter released by Taito Corporation in 1993 and distributed internationally in early 1994. Up to four players can simultaneously pilot spacecraft through increasingly challenging levels filled with enemy fighters, turrets, and massive formations. Players maneuver their ships to destroy these threats while collecting power-ups that enhance firepower and defensive capabilities. The game runs on Taito’s F3 system hardware and is an export version closely related to the Japanese title “Rayforce.” While it never saw a dedicated arcade release in North America, Gunlock has appeared on various home consoles including the Sega Saturn under the name "Galactic Attack," as well as being included in compilations for PC and iPhone. Gunlock serves as the first entry in a series that would later include Ray Storm and Raycrisis, establishing a foundation for Taito’s space-combat franchise.
