Gameplay

G-Stream G2020 is a fast-paced, cooperative vertical scrolling shooter released in 2002 by Oriental Soft Japan. Two players pilot spacecraft through challenging levels, battling waves of enemies with a customizable arsenal. Players can equip up to three different weapon types – Vulcan blasts, homing missiles, and laser beams – collecting colored capsules to determine their loadout and adjust each weapon’s power. Successfully destroying enemies releases medals that increase in value the longer they remain uncollected. A unique defensive mechanic allows players to utilize a "void" bomb by holding down the main fire button. This creates a circular area that transforms incoming enemy projectiles into valuable medals, and grants temporary invulnerability if the player's ship is within the void’s perimeter. Strategic use of this ability is crucial for survival against overwhelming odds. Developed by a team comprised of former Psikyo and Seibu staff, G-Stream G2020 demonstrates influences from titles like XII Stag and Trizeal. The game utilizes an 8-way joystick for precise control and two buttons: one for firing the equipped weapon and another for deploying the void bomb.
