Gridlee
Videa • 1983

In Gridlee, players control a bottle-shaped character navigating a grid-based environment using a trackball to capture colored balls and eliminate enemies. The objective is simple: collect red, green, and crystal balls for points while systematically destroying all onscreen foes to advance through the levels. Players can identify approaching enemies by observing their shadows on the grid, adding an element of anticipation to the gameplay. The game presents a unique challenge with bouncing green balls that are difficult to catch and enemies that charge tiles after landing, creating hazardous zones. Other obstacles include Igor, who slows Gridlee's movement with sticky patches, and a worm that charges tiles, further complicating navigation. Careful timing and precise trackball control are essential for survival and high scores. Originally conceived as "Pogoz," Gridlee is a rare find, representing an early effort from Videa in 1983. Only one physical unit of this unusual shooter was ever produced, making it a noteworthy piece of arcade history.
