Gondomania (World)
Data East Corporation • 1987
Also known as: Makyou Senshi

Take to the skies in Gondomania, a two-player vertical shooter released by Data East Corporation in 1987. Originally developed in Japan as "Makyou Senshi," this game challenges players to maneuver their aircraft through increasingly difficult waves of enemies. The gameplay involves dodging projectiles and defeating opponents while steadily progressing upwards through varied environments. The unusual title "Gondomania" arose during the localization process; American translators felt that the original Japanese name would be confusing for Western audiences, opting instead for a playful reference to the game’s designer, Y. Gondo. As a cooperative experience, Gondomania allows two players to team up and face the challenges together. This export release provides an engaging arcade shooter experience, showcasing Data East's contribution to the genre in the late 1980s.
