Gameplay

Psikyo’s Gunbarich is a two-player breakout game released in 2001 that twists the classic formula with a distinctive action twist. Players control Marion, a character familiar from the Gunbird series, and use paddle-like ships to deflect balls towards formations of blocks arranged across the screen. Each stage presents increasingly complex block patterns and introduces special items which can alter ball behavior or provide offensive capabilities. Unlike traditional breakout games, Gunbarich features a fast pace and an emphasis on skillful maneuvering. Players utilize eight-way joysticks for precise control as they attempt to clear each stage while dodging incoming projectiles from the blocks themselves. A unique system prevents players from entering "SEX" in the high score table, replacing it with smiley faces instead. The game’s technical foundation includes a SH-2 processor and YMF278B sound chip, contributing to its visual presentation and audio experience. Maintenance codes are available for those seeking access to features like stage selection or clearing of saved data.
