Galaxian (Namco set 1)
Namco • 1979
Also known as: Moon Alien, T.T Spacian Part-2, Super GX, Galaxian Test ROM

Galaxian is a two-player shooter that builds upon the foundation laid by games like Space Invaders, introducing more dynamic movement and colorful visuals. Players pilot a ship at the bottom of the screen, tasked with destroying waves of descending aliens before they reach the Galaxip. These aliens move in formation at the top, breaking ranks to dive-bomb the player’s ship while firing missiles. Successive stages introduce new enemy types and formations, including Flagship units that can trigger additional attacks or even flee to reappear later. The game's distinctive sound effects are immediately recognizable, creating a sense of anticipation before the action begins. The Namco cabinet design, introduced with Galaxian, became widely adopted for subsequent arcade hits like Pac-Man. Technical specifications include a Zilog Z80 processor and early use of RGB color display capabilities. Galaxian represents an important step in the evolution of arcade shooters, demanding player attention and strategic maneuvering to overcome increasingly challenging alien formations.
