Flip Shot
Visco • 1998

Visco’s Flip Shot, released in 1998, presents a fresh take on classic paddle games like Pong, but with a competitive twist for two players. Players control selectable characters and use them to volley a ball back and forth across the screen, attempting to score points against their opponent. Each character has unique abilities activated by special buttons: A for a special attack, B for sliding, and C for provoking. The game runs on SNK’s Neo-Geo MVS hardware, a system known for its high quality graphics and sound. Flip Shot was initially tested in arcades during October 1998 before its wider release later that December. It is part of a series which includes the later title Bang Bead. With its simple premise and accessible controls— utilizing an eight-way joystick and four buttons per player — Flip Shot offers quick, engaging matches for players looking for a modern spin on a familiar arcade formula.
