Fighting Hawk (World)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1988

Piloting a fighter plane called "Falcon," players take on waves of enemies across varied landscapes in Fighting Hawk. This vertical scrolling shooter challenges two players simultaneously as they battle through environments ranging from grassy plains to icy glaciers and urban areas. The ultimate objective is to destroy the enemy’s advanced bomber, known as “Dragon Hat,” representing a final confrontation against their aerial forces. Developed by Taito Corporation in 1989, Fighting Hawk utilizes Taito L System hardware and features music composed by V. Ohashi. While initially anticipated to resemble games like Toaplan's "Flying Shark," it ultimately charted its own course with distinct gameplay elements. Notably, the game’s background music and graphic engine were later re-purposed in the title “Master of Weapon,” revealing an early connection between the two projects. A hidden stage selection screen can be accessed through a specific sequence of button presses during startup, offering players direct access to individual levels. The game also includes a unique quirk: attempts to enter "SEX" on the high score table are automatically altered to “H!”.
