Step into the ring for Fatal Fury Special, a refined edition of SNK’s popular fighting game series released in arcades in 1993. Two players select from a roster including returning favorites and new additions like Duck King, Tung Fu Rue, Geese Howard, and Ryo Sakazaki to battle across two distinct background planes. This iteration features improved controls and a faster pace than its predecessor, alongside subtle tweaks to the combo system and damage output. Players utilize an eight-way joystick and four buttons—punch, punch, kick, and kick—to execute a variety of special moves and combos against their opponent. Successfully completing the game under certain conditions unlocks challenging bonus encounters, including a final battle against Art of Fighting’s Ryo Sakazaki. A unique Easter egg awaits players who complete the game on the highest difficulty; a brief, unexpected scene featuring all characters surrounding a crying Ryo Sakazaki appears after the credits roll.
