Gameplay

Konami’s Escape Kids, released in 1991, offers a unique twist on the racing genre where up to four players compete as athletes striving for victory. The gameplay centers around three-lap races against other human opponents or computer-controlled rivals, demanding skillful navigation and strategic use of limited “Super Jumps” to clear obstacles and gain an advantage over competitors. Winning races earns money which can be used to upgrade your runner’s abilities; these improvements range from increased super jumps to better handling on turns and enhanced resilience against being knocked off course. Throughout each race, special items periodically appear that can significantly impact the competition. Players might find an earthquake item to briefly disrupt opponents or a bomb to temporarily immobilize a rival. To qualify for bonus rounds, players must achieve first place in all three races of a given round; success then leads to a cycling mini-game where collecting money is the objective. Each race features five total competitors, and finishing anything less than first results in disqualification. Escape Kids combines straightforward racing action with strategic upgrades and chaotic item usage for an engaging multiplayer experience.
