Gameplay

Piloting either a Snowspeeder or the Millennium Falcon, players navigate through four distinct stages in The Empire Strikes Back, Atari Games' vector graphics shooter released in 1985. The first two levels see you as Luke Skywalker’s Snowspeeder, initially tasked with destroying probe droids over Hoth and then engaging Imperial AT-AT and AT-ST walkers—where harpoons offer a unique attack option against the lumbering AT-ATs. Following this, players assume control of Han Solo's Millennium Falcon in two subsequent stages: one replicating the original Star Wars arcade game’s space battle with TIE fighters, and another involving a perilous flight through an asteroid field. Throughout each level, collisions with enemy fire or obstacles deplete your shield strength, demanding careful maneuvering. Destroying targets earns bonus points, and collecting all four Jedi letters unlocks temporary invincibility—a welcome advantage against the Empire’s forces. The game's dark color scheme and artwork evoke a distinctly Imperial aesthetic, immersing players in the tense atmosphere of The Empire Strikes Back. This conversion kit originally updated existing Star Wars arcade cabinets with new hardware and software.
