Gameplay

Eight Man is a cooperative platform and fighting game released in 1991 by SNK, based on a Japanese cartoon series from the 1960s. Players control one of two characters as they navigate scrolling side-scrolling environments, battling numerous enemies with punches, jumps, and special attacks. The action unfolds across multiple stages, requiring players to work together to overcome obstacles and defeat bosses. The game utilizes SNK’s Neo-Geo MVS hardware, offering detailed graphics for its time. Controls consist of a joystick and four buttons – three of which are actively used for movement, punching, jumping, and unleashing special attacks. While the characters' designs draw inspiration from their cartoon counterparts, they feature updated visuals suitable for the 1990s arcade aesthetic; one character is simply a color variation of the other. Developed by Pallas, Eight Man provides two-player cooperative gameplay. A pachislot adaptation titled "Eightman (Taiyo System)" was later released in Japan during 2000, demonstrating the game’s continued presence within Japanese popular culture.
