Egg Venture (Release 10)
ICE / The Game Room • 1997
Also known as: Egg Venture Deluxe

Egg Venture is a cooperative two-player shooter released in 1997 by ICE and The Game Room. Players use light guns to target animated "bad eggs" across thirty-eight progressively challenging stages. A key element of the gameplay involves distinguishing between enemy targets and “good guy eggs,” as mistakenly shooting the latter impacts your score. Each player advances through the levels by successfully eliminating a predetermined number of adversaries. The game’s unique sound system, born from hardware limitations, employs three separate sound chips to achieve polyphonic audio—a workaround necessitated by component scarcity during development. A looping structure means there is no defined ending; instead, players are periodically awarded a Dynamic Play Adjustment skill ranking after each play session. Developed by Kyle Hodgetts, Egg Venture's characters later reappeared in a redemption game geared towards children, and an updated "Deluxe" version was eventually released to address some of the original’s minor technical issues. The soundtrack incorporates elements from a royalty-free music library, including a recognizable bassline originally featured in “The Great Egg Race.”
