Dynasty Wars (USA, B-Board 89624B-?)
Capcom • 1989
Also known as: Tenchi wo Kurau

Dynasty Wars is a two-player fighting game released by Capcom in 1989 for American arcades. This action title presents battles inspired by historical Chinese warriors and mythology, offering a unique take on the burgeoning fighting game genre of the late eighties. Gameplay unfolds across horizontally scrolling stages, blending traditional one-on-one combat with elements of side-scrolling action as characters clash amidst dynamic backgrounds. Players select from a roster of distinct heroes, each possessing their own special moves and attack styles, to engage in intense duels. The game’s mechanics allow for a degree of movement along the battlefield, adding strategic depth to encounters beyond simple button mashing. Originally developed in Japan under the title Tenchi wo Kurau, this export version brought Capcom's martial combat system to American audiences. Dynasty Wars runs on Capcom’s CP System hardware and marked an early entry in a series that would later include Warriors of Fate. While ports were released for various home computers throughout the early 1990s, as well as more recently for Windows PC, this arcade version remains a testament to Capcom's innovative approach to fighting games during this era.
