Vs. Duck Hunt (set DH3 E)
Nintendo • 1985

Step into the arcade world of Vs. Duck Hunt, Nintendo’s 1985 lightgun shooter that offers a unique experience compared to its home console counterpart. Players use a light gun to target and shoot flying ducks and clay pigeons across a series of increasingly challenging stages. The gameplay loop consists of hunting live ducks, then moving on to shooting clay targets, followed by a bonus round where numerous ducks appear for extra points—and the opportunity to playfully taunt the animated dog character. A distinctive intermission sequence, "Break Time," punctuates the game's progression. This stage features a humorous chase scene between the dog and a duck, providing a brief respite before the gameplay cycle repeats. The arcade version foregoes selectable game modes found in other versions of Duck Hunt, focusing instead on a continuous blend of shooting challenges. The visuals present a palette of 64 colors displayed across a horizontal screen resolution of 256 by 240 pixels, all running at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Music is composed by Hirokazu Tanaka and the game was produced by Gunpei Yokoi.
