Dragon Unit / Castle of Dragon
Athena / Seta • 1989

Dragon Unit, also known as Castle of Dragon, is a cooperative side-scrolling platform fighter released in 1989 by Athena/Seta. Two players select from a roster of characters and advance through levels battling enemies on foot. Gameplay involves navigating environments with jump and attack controls while facing waves of opponents—a classic beat 'em up experience built around straightforward combat mechanics. The game features selectable title options, allowing arcades to display it as either Dragon Unit or Castle of Dragon based on a dipswitch setting. Developed in Japan, the game’s visuals utilize a resolution of 380x240 pixels and a palette of 512 colors. A port of Dragon Unit was later released for the Nintendo Famicom console. A conversion kit was produced by Romstar for distribution within the United States under the title Castle of Dragon. The game’s development team included individuals with diverse roles, from programming to animation and sound design.
