Gameplay

Dragon Buster is a cooperative action platformer for two players, released by Namco in 1984. Players take on the roles of heroic knights embarking on a quest to rescue a princess from an evil dragon’s clutches. The game unfolds across varied scrolling landscapes as you battle creatures and navigate challenging terrain, requiring teamwork and strategic use of your characters' abilities to progress. A unique feature of Dragon Buster is its life-bar system, marking an early innovation in arcade gameplay. As players defeat enemies, they gain experience points that can be used to improve their stats and equip new weapons, offering a role-playing element within the fast-paced action. Success depends on coordinating attacks and supporting each other through increasingly difficult encounters. This two-player adventure has seen numerous ports over the years, appearing on various consoles and computers, cementing its place in Namco’s arcade legacy. A tabletop board game based on Dragon Buster was also released in Japan shortly after the arcade version's debut.
