Gameplay

Step into the digital arena with Discs of Tron, a unique sports game released by Bally Midway in 1983. Inspired by a memorable sequence from the film Tron, players control a character tasked with knocking down their opponent, Sark, from his elevated platform using discs. The gameplay revolves around skillful disc-throwing and strategic maneuvering across increasingly challenging levels, each presenting new platform arrangements to navigate. The game’s simple premise masks an engaging challenge requiring precision and timing. Points are awarded for successfully hitting Sark's various defenses – energy discs, chasers, pellets, and even his platform itself – culminating in a high score achieved by completely “derezzing” your foe. While the upright cabinet version lacks some of the elaborate features found in the rarer "Environmental" model, it still offers a compelling arcade experience rooted in the visual aesthetic established by its film inspiration. Discs of Tron represents an interesting footnote in arcade history, initially conceived as part of the larger Tron coin-op but later released as a standalone title. With simple controls consisting of a joystick, spinner knob and trigger button, it provides accessible gameplay that still rewards skillful play.
