Do! Run Run (set 1)
Universal • 1984
Also known as: Super Pierrot

Do! Run Run challenges players to navigate maze-like levels in an overhead perspective, marking a departure from previous entries in the Mr. Do! series. As Mr. Do!, you collect dots and fruit while avoiding or eliminating enemies using either a Powerball projectile or strategically pushed wooden logs that clear paths across the screen. A unique mechanic allows players to draw rectangular lines behind Mr. Do!, transforming dots into cherries, then apples, lemons, and finally pineapples – each successive transformation yielding higher point values. Two players can join forces in this cooperative experience, utilizing a line-drawing technique reminiscent of Qix to create these valuable transformations. The game incorporates sloping terrain that affects Mr. Do!'s movement speed, adding an element of spatial awareness to the gameplay. Successful use of logs and bouncing Powerballs offers high point potential, while uncovering hidden letters allows for special events and temporary slowdowns of enemies. Released as a conversion kit due to market conditions in 1984, Do! Run Run is a relatively rare arcade title that ultimately represents Universal’s final installment in the Mr. Do! franchise.
