Doki Doki Penguin Land
Sega • 1985

Guide Adelie, a penguin, and his precious egg through increasingly challenging stages in Sega’s Doki Doki Penguin Land. This cooperative platform game for two players tasks you with carefully maneuvering the egg from the top of each level down to Adelie's waiting wife. The gameplay revolves around digging downwards; however, digging only affects tiles adjacent to the penguin, demanding precise movements and strategic planning to avoid getting stuck or dropping the egg too far. Polar bears patrol the levels presenting a constant threat, while sneaky moles attempt to steal the egg if it falls behind. Players can dispatch polar bears by strategically dropping rocks or creating pitfalls, but must remain vigilant as any contact with an enemy or a fatal drop results in losing a life. The screen scrolls only as far as the egg descends, and Adelie reappears at the top should he stray too far ahead. Featuring simple controls and charming visuals, Doki Doki Penguin Land offers a unique puzzle platforming experience best enjoyed with a friend. Originally released in Japan in 1986, this game blends precision timing with clever problem-solving for an engaging arcade challenge.
