Gameplay

Dock Man challenges players to work together in this cooperative platform game released by Taito Corporation in 1982. The gameplay unfolds across two distinct phases within a bustling port setting. Initially, players must skillfully catch falling cargo bales using a catching button and then deposit them into the ship’s storage bins. This requires precise timing and coordination as the conveyor belt continually delivers new loads. The second phase introduces an added layer of complexity: players now need to use a throwing button to dislodge cartons from the conveyor, attempting to catch them before they hit the ground. Avoiding troublesome characters and moving carts is crucial; furthermore, careful attention must be paid to explosive cargo that could trigger disastrous consequences if mishandled. Failure occurs if all portmen are lost or if the cargo falls unchecked onto the pier, resulting in a game over. Dock Man offers two-player cooperative action driven by a Zilog Z80 processor and accompanied by sound generated from General Instrument AY8910 chips.
