Gameplay

Embark on a perilous rescue mission in Desert War, a fast-paced vertical scrolling shooter from Jaleco released in 1995. As one of two players, you pilot a vehicle through enemy territory to free prisoners of war held captive across dangerous battlefields. The game challenges players with relentless waves of enemies and escalating difficulty as they ascend the screen. Developed by Nihon Maicom Kaihatsu (NMK), Desert War utilizes Jaleco's Mega System 32 hardware for vibrant graphics and engaging gameplay. Players control their aircraft using an eight-way joystick and two buttons to unleash attacks and maneuver through a barrage of projectiles. Strategic use of the 'A' button can provide bursts of speed, while the 'B' button delivers increased damage and scoring opportunities against specific enemy types and stage elements. Known as "Wangan Sensou" in Japan, Desert War provides cooperative gameplay for two players seeking to achieve a favorable outcome by destroying the final boss without losing their armor. The game marked NMK’s last contribution to video game development before their bankruptcy several years later.
