Take on the role of a train engineer in Densha de GO!, a unique and immersive driving simulator released by Taito in 1996. This first-person game challenges players to navigate Japanese rail lines, carefully managing speed and timing to ensure passengers reach their destinations within strict time limits. The experience puts you directly in the driver's seat as you follow routes covering portions of the San’in Main Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line, Tokaido Line (JR Kyoto Line), and Yamanote Line. Success hinges on precise control and attention to detail; missing signals or exceeding speed limits results in penalties that impact your score. Densha de GO! utilizes textured polygon graphics and a sophisticated sound system featuring Ensoniq chips for an authentic feel. The game’s title, translating from Japanese as “Let's go by Train!”, perfectly encapsulates the engaging core gameplay loop. Originally released in Japan, this arcade title launched a successful series of train simulation games including Densha De Go! EX and Densha de GO! 2 Kosoku-hen. Ports have since appeared on platforms like PlayStation, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, WonderSwan and PC. A soundtrack featuring music composed by Norihiro Furukawa was also released in 1997.
