Gameplay

Konami’s Double Dribble arrived in arcades in 1986 and offers two players a competitive basketball experience. Players use an eight-way joystick to control their on-screen athlete, maneuvering for position and attempting to score against the opposing team. The gameplay focuses on strategic passing and shooting, as you attempt to outmaneuver your opponent and sink baskets within timed periods. This sports title represents Konami’s second venture into basketball games, following Super Basketball. Double Dribble distinguishes itself with a unique inclusion: a full rendition of the United States national anthem featured within the game's audio. The arcade version utilizes multiple sound chips to deliver its distinctive soundtrack and effects. Beyond the arcades, Double Dribble has seen numerous ports across various platforms including home consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System and personal computers such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga. These releases allowed players to continue their basketball rivalry beyond the arcade environment.
