Ufo Robo Dangar (4/09/1987)
Nichibutsu • 1986

Piloting a spaceship through a vertically scrolling battlefield, players in Ufo Robo Dangar fight waves of enemy ships while collecting scattered ship parts. These components gradually assemble into a massive robot capable of delivering powerful attacks, including a devastating fist strike. Maintaining the integrity of this colossal construct is key to success; damage sustained by the robot will impact its abilities and ultimate power. As players progress, they can arm their robotic creation with weaponry and even transform it into smaller, more agile spacecraft. The game builds upon mechanics familiar from earlier titles like Terra Cresta, reintroducing returning bosses and enemies reimagined in a robotic aesthetic alongside elements that would become prominent in the later Terra Force. Developed by Nichibutsu and released in 1986, Ufo Robo Dangar is a cooperative shooter designed for two players utilizing an eight-way joystick to control movement and dedicated buttons for firing weapons and initiating transformations. The game’s title derives from its inspiration by the Japanese animated series DANGARD and UFO ROBO GRENDIZER.
