Nichibutsu’s Dacholer, released in Japan in 1983, is a cooperative maze shooter for two players. Taking control of ostriches, players navigate enclosed areas and dispatch enemies by kicking turtle shells – shaped like soccer balls – at them. Successfully hitting opponents allows progression to bonus stages or advances the game to the next level. The gameplay centers around precise aiming and coordination between both ostrich characters as they maneuver through increasingly challenging layouts. With a resolution of 256x224 pixels, Dacholer presents a vibrant visual style utilizing a palette of sixteen colors. Players utilize an eight-way joystick for movement and two buttons to control the kicking action. Later versions of this game were released under the name “Kick Boy.” The title runs on dual Zilog Z80 processors operating at 4 MHz, providing the foundation for its unique gameplay experience.
