Gameplay

Pilot one of three powerful elemental dragons in Cyvern – The Dragon Weapons, a fast-paced vertical shooter released by Kaneko in 1998. Team up with another player to battle through waves of enemy airships and confront imposing bosses in this visually impressive overhead experience. Players use an eight-way joystick to maneuver their dragon, utilizing two buttons for firing projectiles and deploying bombs to clear the skies. Cyvern challenges players with responsive controls and escalating difficulty as they face a relentless onslaught of adversaries. A later upgrade introduced modifications allowing each dragon to gain special abilities during gameplay, along with a boss energy gauge to track progress during intense confrontations. Certain items can even trigger altered versions of some bosses, adding further variety to the experience. The game’s technical foundation rests on Kaneko's Super Nova system hardware, delivering vibrant graphics and a dynamic soundtrack that underscores the action. Cyvern – The Dragon Weapons was initially showcased at the 1998 AOU Amusement Expo in Japan before its release later that year.
