Cybattler
Jaleco • 1993

In Cybattler, two players pilot advanced robotic warriors against an alien invasion. This vertical scrolling shooter challenges you to blast through waves of enemy mechs and other mechanical threats using a laser cannon and a close-range laser sword. Fast-paced action demands quick reflexes as you navigate intricate levels and face increasingly difficult bosses. The game utilizes Jaleco’s Mega System 1-C hardware, delivering vibrant graphics with a palette of over one thousand colors and a detailed screen resolution of 256 x 224 pixels. Players control their robots using an eight-way joystick and two buttons, one for the cannon and one to activate the laser sword in close combat. Successfully completing missions can unlock special bonuses based on performance. Cybattler's design team included artists Nao, Takasan, and Jun Matsumura, while programmers Kuma, Kikki, and King brought their expertise to the game’s intricate mechanics. The soundtrack is composed by Pro, Masaaki U., and Tsugumi Y., complemented by sound effects crafted by Pao.
