Curve Ball
Mylstar • 1984

Step up to the plate in Curve Ball, a two-player baseball game released by Mylstar in 1984. This early entry into the sports arcade genre puts you and a friend head-to-head as you control batters attempting to hit pitches thrown by the opposing player. The gameplay is straightforward: each player manages their team’s hitting, selecting from various pitch types and aiming for strategic placement on the field. The vertical screen displays simple graphics with a limited color palette of sixteen hues. Behind the scenes, an Intel 8086 processor handles the main game logic while a MOS Technology M6502 chip generates sound effects, enhancing the experience with basic audio cues to accompany each swing and pitch. Players use two buttons for input, allowing them to choose their desired action as they compete to score runs. Designed by Bill Adams, Curve Ball offers a glimpse into the early days of sports simulation in arcades, providing a competitive baseball experience for two players at a time.
