Compete for racing glory in Championship Sprint, an updated entry in Atari’s popular Sprint series. Players use a steering wheel and pedal to navigate oval race tracks filled with jumps, ramps, and crossroads, vying for first place against another racer. Throughout each contest, bonus wrenches are scattered around the course; collecting four of these allows players to upgrade their vehicle's performance, choosing enhancements like improved traction, acceleration, or even a faster helicopter rescue service. Collisions can be costly, as barriers slow you down and head-on impacts lead to spectacular car explosions – though thankfully, a helicopter will quickly deliver a replacement vehicle with its upgrades intact. Upgrading the helicopter shortens this recovery time, letting you regain your position against opponents. Championship Sprint was released in 1986 as a tribute to Atari’s first artist and creator of the company logo, George Opperman.
