Gameplay

Cosmo Gang the Video is a two-player gallery shooter released by Namco in 1991. Players take on the role of spacefaring heroes defending against waves of quirky enemies known as the Cosmo Gang. These adversaries appear in distinct patterns and often combine into larger attack formations, demanding careful targeting and strategic maneuvering to overcome. The core objective involves preventing the Cosmo Gang from stealing energy across a series of challenging stages. This arcade game evolved from an earlier popular redemption game bearing the same name. Gameplay utilizes an 8-way joystick for movement and three buttons for firing, allowing players to precisely control their ships as they navigate the vibrant, detailed environments. The game’s soundtrack was even released on a limited edition album in 1993 by Victor Entertainment. A notable feature of the US version is the inclusion of an anti-drug message screen promoting a drug-free lifestyle. Designed by Kohji Kenjoh and featuring character design from Fanchan, Cosmo Gang the Video offers cooperative action for two players.
