Clay Pigeon (version 2.0)
Exidy • 1986

Clay Pigeon (version 2.0) challenges players to test their marksmanship in a realistic shooting simulation from Exidy, released in 1986. Using a light gun shaped like a shotgun, you’ll attempt to shatter clay targets launched across the screen, choosing between Trap Shooting – where targets fly directly away – or Skeet Shooting, which presents them across your field of vision. Rounds are set against detailed outdoor backgrounds and announced with a repetitive vocal cue before each target release. As you progress, the game introduces a new challenge: hunting live ducks that appear in small groups. Unlike many shooting games of the era, missing even one duck results in an immediate game over, demanding precision and quick reflexes. The game was initially distributed as either a conversion kit for older Exidy gun titles or as a standalone cabinet featuring a large control panel and distinctive black cabinetry. Clay Pigeon runs on Exidy’s 440 hardware and features graphics rendered with the manufacturer’s signature realistic style, offering a straightforward but demanding shooting experience for a single player.
