City Connection (set 1)
Jaleco • 1985
Also known as: Cruisin

In City Connection, players control a small red car navigating a series of platforming levels in this cooperative run-and-jump arcade game released by Jaleco in 1985. The core gameplay revolves around driving across platforms to color them in, with the goal of completing each level’s layout. Players must also collect oil cans to use as projectiles against patrolling vehicles like police cars, taxis, and ambulances, while dodging flag-waving cats that obstruct the path. Up to two players can participate simultaneously, sharing the challenge of clearing stages and avoiding obstacles. The game's title is thought to be a reference to the car’s resemblance to a Honda City hatchback, and its protagonist is Clarice, a teenage girl on a worldwide search for her ideal match – a fact hinted at by the heart icons that appear upon losing a life and the brief appearance of Clarice after completing a level. The high score rankings prominently display Clarice's name. Approximately one thousand units of City Connection were produced originally, and it was later licensed under the title "Cruisin'". The game has seen various ports to home consoles including the Nintendo Entertainment System and PlayStation 4.
