Mahjong Chinmoku no Hentai (Japan 900511)

Nichibutsu’s Mahjong Chinmoku no Hentai, released in Japan in 1990, is a two-player mahjong game infused with a unique war theme and quirky presentation. Players engage in traditional mahjong gameplay, aiming to create valid sets of tiles while strategically discarding to disrupt their opponent's hand. A distinctive element of the game lies within its tile design: the typically Chinese characters representing the 'manzu' suit are presented instead in English lettering. Beyond the core mechanics of mahjong, Mahjong Chinmoku no Hentai incorporates random bonus items that introduce unexpected twists to the gameplay. The title itself is a playful parody referencing the Japanese anime and manga series silent service, although players control a gunship rather than a submarine. Powered by a Zilog Z80 processor and featuring sound from an YM3812 chip, this unusual combination of tabletop strategy and military humor offers a memorable arcade experience.
