Sega • 1984

Step into the ring with Sega’s Champion Boxing, a two-player sports game released in 1984. Players control their boxers using an eight-way joystick and buttons to punch and defend against their opponent. The gameplay focuses on strategic positioning and timing, as you attempt to land blows while avoiding being knocked down yourself. Designed by Yu Suzuki, Champion Boxing features straightforward controls and a focus on the fundamentals of boxing competition. Two players can face off directly, testing their reflexes and skill in a digitized boxing match. The game utilizes a Zilog Z80 processor for its graphics and sound. Originally released in November 1984, Champion Boxing marked an early entry into the sports arcade genre, later ported to various home consoles and computers including the Sega SG-1000 and MSX.
