Flying Ball (DECO Cassette) (US)
Data East Corporation • 1985

Data East’s Flying Ball, released in 1985 for two players, offers a straightforward twist on the classic ball and paddle gameplay popularized by games like Breakout. Players use paddles to deflect a bouncing ball, aiming to break through formations of bricks arranged at the top of the screen. The DECO Cassette system powers this title, a unique hardware platform used by Data East during that era. Gameplay is centered around strategic paddle positioning and anticipating the ball's trajectory as it ricochets between the brick walls. Success involves clearing each layer of bricks to advance to the next level, with increasing complexity in the brick patterns appearing over time. A planned export version, initially titled Bumpoline, was ultimately never released outside of its original market. Flying Ball utilizes a cartridge identified as Model DT-135 and provides a competitive experience for two players simultaneously.
