Casanova
Promat • 199?

Casanova is a two-player puzzle game from Promat that combines match-three gameplay with a quirky narrative. Players work together to clear tiles arranged in a traditional Mahjong format, aiming to progress through levels and advance the unusual storyline. The game begins with a bored young man who becomes captivated by dancers on television, prompting him to embark on a quest to find similar women within a strange palace of buildings. Success in each level unlocks glimpses of these sought-after figures, presented as part of their image. A unique "special move" introduces a dancing superhero and a missile that clears random tiles from the board, accompanied by music drawn from 1970s Beach music recordings. Beneath its unusual premise, Casanova relies on familiar match-three mechanics for its core gameplay loop. The game’s sound design incorporates recognizable elements; some audio cues are taken directly from Windows 98 operating system sounds. Powered by a Motorola 68000 CPU and an OKI6295 sound device, Casanova presented a novel twist on the popular puzzle genre when it was released.
