Captain Commando (World 911202)

Capcom’s Captain Commando, released in 1991, is a four-player fighter that blends side-scrolling action with a 2.5D perspective. Players control a team of superheroes battling against an evil organization known as the Richter Corporation and its monstrous creations. Each character possesses unique weapons and abilities; for example, Sho fights with energy blades, while Jennety wields a pair of knives. The gameplay involves traversing through detailed stages, defeating waves of enemies, and ultimately confronting powerful bosses. Progressing through the game unlocks new areas and challenges as the team works together to thwart Richter’s schemes. Note that in this export version, character names were altered; Sho is known as Ginzu, Jennety as Mack the Knife, and Hoover as Baby Head. Captain Commando originally appeared on arcade hardware, and later saw ports to various consoles including the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and included within collections for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It also was made available on Sony’s PSP handheld system.
