Calipso — Gameplay
Gameplay

In Calipso, players take on the role of divers searching for treasure in an underwater maze. Using an eight-way joystick and a single fire button, you navigate your diver while attempting to collect valuable artifacts located at the bottom of the screen. A unique gameplay mechanic prevents movement while shooting; aiming requires stillness, making encounters with both sea creatures and another player more strategic. The objective is simple: retrieve the treasure and return it safely to a boat positioned at the top of the playfield before your oxygen supply depletes. Along the way, players must eliminate hostile marine life and can even target their opponent for competitive advantage. Featuring a vertical screen with a resolution of 224x256 pixels and a palette of 99 colors, Calipso offers a visually distinct experience powered by Zilog Z80 processors and General Instrument AY8910 sound chips. This two-player game from Tago Electronics challenges players to balance skillful navigation, precise shooting, and resource management within its confined underwater environment.
