Gameplay

Caliber 50 puts players in the roles of captured American pilots attempting to escape a prison compound during the Vietnam War. This side-scrolling shooter allows for full 360-degree character rotation, enabling movement and firing in any direction as you battle enemy soldiers, vehicles, and aircraft. Initially armed with a machine gun and grenades, players can find power-ups within destructible crates to upgrade their arsenal with items like rocket launchers and flamethrowers. Gameplay unfolds across varied environments, from the jungles of Vietnam to hidden underground tunnels. Players will face constant waves of enemies while also having opportunities to commandeer enemy vehicles for a temporary advantage. The game’s stages are designed to be challenging experiences requiring quick reflexes and strategic use of available weaponry. Developed by Seta in 1989, Caliber 50 is a two-player cooperative experience featuring voice acting performed entirely by Jun Aida. Built around a Motorola 68000 processor and utilizing an X1-010 sound chip, the game presents its action on a vertical screen with a resolution of 240x384 pixels.
