Gameplay

Take to an offroad course in Buggy Challenge, a driving game released by Taito Corporation in 1984. Players control a buggy vehicle navigating a chase-view perspective across varied terrain. Using a dial and two buttons for controls, the objective is to maneuver through the environment while avoiding obstacles and maintaining forward momentum. The single-player experience presents a straightforward challenge of skill and precision as you steer your buggy. The game utilizes Zilog Z80 and Motorola M68705 processors alongside General Instrument AY8910 and MSM5232 sound chips for its audio output. Buggy Challenge was initially published in August 1984, and later licensed to Tecfri for distribution. This Taito title represents an early example of driving games incorporating offroad environments, offering a unique twist on the racing genre. A version of the game would later be included within the compilation “Taito Memories II Gekan” released for Sony Playstation 2 in Japan during March 2007.
