Gameplay

Brain is a cooperative side-scrolling shooter released in 1986 by Coreland and Sega for two players. The game places you initially in a spacecraft navigating through deep space, requiring precise piloting to reach a planetary surface. Once landed, gameplay shifts as one player assumes the role of a space ranger traversing underground caves and tunnels. As the space ranger, your mission involves collecting computer disks scattered throughout the subterranean environment; each disk recovered reveals more about a hidden enemy. The game features unusual encounters with various UFOs and alien entities that can be acquired through observation and skillful play. Brain utilizes Sega’s System 2 hardware and controls are simple: an eight-way joystick manages movement, while two buttons handle actions within the differing phases of gameplay.
