Bongo
Jetsoft • 1983

Bongo is a two-player platform game released in 1983 by Jetsoft. As tourists exploring an underground cave system, players must navigate perilous rock platforms while being pursued by a persistent red dinosaur. The gameplay revolves around jumping to avoid hazards such as lava flows, falling debris, and various animals inhabiting the caverns. The objective is to collect six bonus items spread throughout each level, all while managing your limited lives. As you progress deeper into the cave, challenges escalate with increasingly difficult terrain and obstacles; following a path marked by ancient caveman trails becomes essential for escape. A key element of survival involves utilizing an old cage to temporarily trap the dinosaur that’s constantly on your heels. Bongo utilizes an 8-way joystick for player control and features sound provided by a General Instrument AY8910 chip, all powered by a Zilog Z80 processor. The game was later ported to the Commodore C64 in 1984.
