Blazing Star — Gameplay
Gameplay

In Blazing Star, two players pilot unique spacecraft in a visually striking, horizontally scrolling shooter set amidst an interplanetary war between Remuria and Mutras. The conflict escalates when a sentient weapon, Brawshella, assimilates the human population and forces them into endless combat—until six pilots regain their memories and fight back against the machine menace. Players choose from six ships, each with distinct attack patterns and abilities accessed through joystick control and two buttons; one for firing standard or charged shots, and another to split projectiles for increased range. Gameplay revolves around skillful maneuvering and strategic use of power-ups that enhance weapon strength and charged shot capabilities. Mastering the nuances of each ship is key—the Hellhound excels at combo building while the Windina delivers a wide, powerful spread. Successfully navigating the stages and defeating enemies requires precise timing and clever exploitation of your chosen vessel's special attacks, such as the Dinos’ defensive weaponry or Aryustailm’s energy sword field. Originally released on the Neo-Geo MVS platform in 1998 by Yumekobo, Blazing Star offers a challenging cooperative experience for fans of classic shoot 'em ups. A hidden stage select can be accessed at the ship selection screen, allowing players to experiment with different starting points and further explore the game's vibrant world.
