Gameplay

Blandia is a two-player fighting game released in Japan by Allumer in 1992. Players choose from a roster of ten distinct fighters and engage in weapon-based combat utilizing a simple three-button control scheme – high, medium, and low attacks. A key visual element of the game is the detailed depiction of damage to each character’s armor as battles progress, providing immediate feedback on the impact of strikes. The gameplay focuses on direct confrontation between two players, with no elaborate stage interactions or special moves beyond basic attack variations. Blandia runs on Seta hardware and features a horizontal screen displaying graphics at a resolution of 384x240 pixels. While relatively obscure, some characters later appeared in Taito’s Gladiator series under different names. A prototype version of the game exists that lacks the armor damage effect found in the final retail release. The development team included individuals who would go on to contribute to other notable titles within the Japanese arcade scene.
