Birdiy
Mama Top • 1983

Birdiy is a two-player arcade game released in 1983 by Mama Top. Players control mother birds who must navigate a vertical environment gathering food to nourish their chick back at the nest. The gameplay involves collecting caterpillars from leaves and worms from the ground while avoiding attacks from a skunk, all while trying to keep the young bird safe from unseen dangers. The game utilizes a 224x288 pixel resolution displayed horizontally on a screen refreshed sixty times per second, utilizing a palette of five hundred twelve colors. Movement is controlled with a four-way joystick and a single button handles actions within the game’s climbing and foraging mechanics. Birdiy represents Mama Top Corporation's sole contribution to the arcade market. A version titled "Birdie" was later released for MSX computers in 1984, demonstrating an attempt at expanding the original arcade title beyond dedicated hardware.
