Chou Zetsurinjin Berabowman (Japan, Rev C)
Namco • 1988

Chou Zetsurinjin Berabowman is a fast-paced platform and fighting scrolling game released by Namco in 1988. Two players control characters who navigate through varied stages, battling enemies and progressing towards the end of each level. Gameplay involves utilizing a four-way joystick to move across the screen while pressing pressure-sensitive buttons for attacks, demonstrating a focus on responsive controls and quick reflexes. The game’s title, translating roughly to "Unequaled Man," reflects the protagonists' abilities as they face increasingly challenging adversaries. Later in the game, players will encounter familiar faces; a boss from Namco’s Pistol-Shogun appears as a formidable opponent during one stage. The distinctive name “BERABOW” is visible within the high score list. Running on Namco System 1 hardware, this two-player arcade title combines scrolling platforming elements with direct combat encounters and features a soundtrack composed by Norio Nakagata. A port of the game was later released for the NEC PC-Engine in Japan.
