Gameplay

Battle Bakraid is a fast-paced, vertically scrolling shooter that builds upon the challenging gameplay established in its predecessor, Battle Garegga. Two players can simultaneously pilot customizable fighter planes through increasingly difficult levels, battling waves of enemies and massive bosses as they ascend towards the game's conclusion. Mastering the scoring system is key to success, with medals awarded for clearing stages without taking damage; losing even one medal resets your progress significantly. A complex multiplier system rewards skilled players who prioritize destroying larger enemy types, allowing for potentially enormous point gains – though maintaining this multiplier requires careful planning and skillful maneuvering. The Unlimited Version, released in June of 1999, unlocks five new playable fighters and a special course through the use of unlock codes accessible at the start screen. Players can also access additional features such as score calculations and stage editing by inputting specific button combinations. The game’s technical foundation combines Motorola and Zilog processors alongside a Yamaha sound chip to deliver intense action accompanied by dynamic music. A unique restriction prevents players from entering the initials "SEX" on the high score table, which will be automatically altered to "H!?".
