Barricade
Ramtek • 1976
Also known as: Brickyard

Players in Barricade, released in 1976 by Ramtek, control cursors on screen to strategically build walls and attempt to trap opponents. The objective is to maneuver rivals into collisions with your constructed barriers, eliminating them from the game. This maze-like surround game accommodates up to four players simultaneously, creating a chaotic free-for-all where spatial reasoning and quick reflexes are essential for survival. The gameplay centers around simple directional controls—up, down, left, and right—allowing players to extend their walls incrementally across the playing field. Known also as Brickyard, Barricade features a straightforward design with a 23-inch monitor housed in a compact cabinet measuring approximately three feet high, thirty-three inches wide, and just over two feet deep. A sequel, Barricade II, followed shortly after its initial release. Designed by Howell Ivy, the game utilizes an Intel 8080 processor and discrete sound chips to provide the core gaming experience for players vying for dominance in this unique arena.
